Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Over the years LIUNA members in Iowa have played a significant role in the expansion of renewable energy projects and their supporting infrastructure. Often, these jobs offer the highest pay scales and benefits that help our families and the communities we live in. Whether it’s the tax revenue generated by the project itself or the revenue provided by local workers who live and do business in the area, these projects matter and are crucial to union construction workers. NextEra is planning a wind farm in southern Buchanan County to tie into the Duane Arnold transmission lines. We have been fighting a multi-year battle and will need folks to attend these meetings to speak up in support of a more workable wind ordinance. Buchanan County residency is helpful but not mandatory. Your help is needed! Let’s turn out and show our support for the wind project! There are 3 Buchanan County Public Hearings scheduled for May 15, 22, 29 @ 7 pm at the Brandon Area Community Center 802 Main St, Brandon, IA 52210. Again, we are encouraging your attendance at these meetings to show support for renewable energy infrastructure projects such as this. Talking Points for Meetings: -Construction Careers are made working on multiple projects -Union Construction is the safest and best construction for communities -Union construction workers on average make more than their non-union counterparts -Union wind and Solar projects employ local workers -Renewable energy infrastructure helps to reduce overall carbon emissions. -Wind generated energy construction projects = good paying jobs, tax incentives to landowners and county and local communities, promote renewable energy production and help to stimulate local economies.
